Weed club near Torremolinos

The straight answer

Velvet isn't in Torremolinos. Not on Calle San Miguel, not on the Carihuela promenade, not out in El Pinillo. The only door is in Fuengirola, at the western end of the same C-1 line that runs through town. So if a weed club in Torremolinos is what you typed, we're not there, but we're close.

There are no Amsterdam-style coffee shops here, in Torremolinos or anywhere else in Spain, and nothing is sold over a counter. What Spain has instead are private, non-profit cannabis social clubs for adults, and membership comes before the door opens. The coffee shop question, answered.

Five stations, one line

Torremolinos has five stops on the Cercanías C-1. From east to west: Los Álamos, La Colina, Torremolinos, Montemar Alto and El Pinillo. Board the train heading to Fuengirola, not Málaga.

From Torremolinos station it's about 20 minutes. Add a few from Los Álamos or La Colina, take a few off from El Pinillo. Through the day there's one roughly every 20 minutes. Fuengirola is the last stop.

Which stop is yours

• La Carihuela. Montemar Alto is the nearest station, about 15 minutes on foot, uphill from the sand.
• Playamar. Walk up to La Colina or Torremolinos, whichever is nearer your block.
• Montemar. Montemar Alto is your stop.
• El Pinillo. Its own station, the last one in Torremolinos before Benalmádena.
• The centre. Torremolinos station.

By car

West along the A-7, roughly 20 minutes without traffic. Slower in summer and at rush hour.

Driving means not consuming. Police run roadside drug tests across Spain. Test positive and it's a fine plus penalty points, no matter how sober you think you are.

The ride back

When you arrive, check the Renfe timetable for the last C-1 back to your stop. Trains stop overnight, so miss it and it's a taxi.

Why go west

Torremolinos does loud well. Velvet is the other thing: low light, a proper seat, nobody rushing you. Worth twenty minutes on a train.
